According to the EPA, over 20 billion pounds of carbon emissions are put into the atmosphere every year as a result of lawn mowing in the United States. To prevent this, we, as a business, have created our own green initiative. Together with our customers, we can efficiently work towards our common goal of minimizing our carbon footprint.
GreenEarth Lawn and Landscape has thoroughly examined its operations to determine where it can minimize its impact on the environment. Some steps we have taken are:
- We have switched to 100% recycled paper and envelopes for our billing and notification services and have begun to offer online bill paying through PayPal.
- We utilize a hosting company for our website that is powered solely by geothermal and hydro-electric energy, making it one of the only truly carbon-neutral hosting companies.
- We have carefully selected our equipment in a way that most efficiently gets the job done. We look at the carbon output of the equipment, relative to the time it would take to complete the job and have selected to equipment that has the least impact on the environment.
- We have initiated a donation-matching program to partner with our customers in supporting local conservation efforts.
Each year, according to the EPA, nearly 67 million birds die across the United States as a result of contact with chemical fertilizers and pesticides. These fertilizers and pesticides are one of the main causes of water pollution in the United States. The United States uses roughly 12 million tons of fertilizer each year, consuming energy equivalent to over 4.5 billion gallons of diesel to do so.
With that said, GreenEarth Lawn and Landscape is working hard to develop an organic lawn care service, consisting of non-harmful, all natural fertilizers and other services, such as aeration, that help your lawn stay green by providing them with the right soil conditions to grow strong roots. This process will be 100% pet and child friendly, and will allow your lawn to naturally fight pests and remain more drought tolerant through the heat of the summer because of its deeper root structure. Lastly, we are also evaluating the potential for credit card billing, to virtually eliminate our paper use, while continuously reviewing our operations to determine where additional changes can be made.
We hope you will join us on our quest to reduce our impact on the environment. Planting trees on your own property is a great way to add value to your home, reduce energy consumption and help fight noise, air, and soil pollution. You may also want to consider an organic fertilizer regiment, which will keep your lawn looking green all through the year, while reducing the need for watering and fighting pollution.
